Summary/Artist Statement:

Art is an extension of oneself. It is the visual voice that reaches out to express an emotion, a topic of concern, or an opinion. After creating many plein air paintings for my master’s thesis my concerns turned toward environmental issues and our impact on this planet. To stress this concern I relied on atmospheric perspective with color variations in the landscapes, primarily in the skies, and the juxtaposition of manmade elements within the landscapes. Now that the thesis is complete I feel it only scratched the surface of this impulse to communicate environmental issues. This increased awareness of our environment has also stirred my interest in spirituality and in the process I have become a Reiki Master, which is a therapeutic healing touch. Art can be a form of meditation whether you are viewing or creating it there are many healing benefits to art.
