Summary/Artist Statement:

Animated sculptures, drawings and installations patched together using ideas found in worlds I travel to and live in, illustrate my reaction to daily experiences and my innate ability to transform common experience into extraordinary fantasies that exist in an uncommon world. Western New York is where I find the majority of my source material. I am inspired by the unseen and overlooked, seeking out the details that make the bigger picture. I rely on observations combined with my playful use of material to create a collaged record of my real and imagined experience.

I indulge myself in material play. Paint oozes and puddles like warm honey. It is comparable to glaze, transforming materials beyond their normal life into a world of whimsy. Installations sprout out of the wall like perky dandelions. Surfaces and textures mimic naturally occurring organic growths. Pipe fittings become legs that tread through a spongy field. Assembling common materials such as foam, quilting pins, electric caps, joint compound andindustrial paint is reminiscent of the fun and intuitive play involved in constructing toys like Lincoln logs, Lego’s, and Play-Doh. My work inspires wonder in the viewer, while extending an invitation to play with me.
