Summary/Artist Statement:

Process is central to my art-making experience. The making of my work allows for a space in which to create and make visible my perceived interpretations of the tangible and intangible, the past and present, the real and the felt. My process involves painting fragments of silk cloth that I coat and layer with gel medium to provide stabilizing elements for the creation of surfaces on which to further build. The two-dimensional work serves as an anchor, providing me with a structural format in which to compose and develop imagery. In some works sections of written messages and photographs of my art previously made are synthesized within the layered surfaces. It is often imperative that my art include recognizable forms and motifs derived from the natural environment and is referred to as an ongoing theme in my work. The art is sealed with a final layer of gel medium as a way to capture, cement and secure meaningful moments, with the work reflecting specific transformative instances impressed upon me at a particular time and place in my personal history.
